Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah opened to the public on October 13th, 2019, adding another example to Relicase’s Islamic museum project. Others are: Bolgar Memorial Sign Quran Museum, Russia; Museum of Islamic Art, Doha, Qatar; Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, UAE.
The museum was designed by world-renowned architect, Pei Partnership. And houses and conserves over 1,000 Islamic artifacts. Ranging from His Majesty’s personal collection of hand-written Al-Qurans, an exquisite range of walking sticks and prayer beads dating from early Islamic periods to the late 19th century. The PEI design takes its cues from local Bruneian architecture and is intended to be a distinctive icon of Islamic design.
Balai Khazanah showcases efforts of His Majesty, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam in maintaining and preserving treasures of Islamic heritage. It is among landmarks of the intellectual leadership of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in maintaining, empowering and preserving the treasures of Islamic heritage. It is also a research center for the collection and dissemination of scholarly Islamic work.
